Senior Pension Accountant

Are you a results-oriented and highly organized self-starter looking to join a hardworking team in a diversely successful organization? The Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund (ATRF) is looking for a Senior Pension Accountant to join our dynamic Finance team located in Edmonton, Alberta.   

Established in 1939, ATRF has provided exceptional administration for the Teachers' Pension Plans of Alberta for over 80 years. ATRF takes pride in delivering the highest quality service to more than 80,000 plan members. 

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Pension Accountant is a key member of the Pension Accounting team responsible to collect and record all pension financial related transactions within the organization, as well as the execution of pension plan payments, and all related banking and regulatory remittances and reporting. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the provision of trust receipts, pension and refund payments, pension plan bank and tax administration, pension accounting and reporting functions to both internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy, as well as the ability to accurately follow relevant legislations, policies and procedures. Strong analytical problem-solving skills along with the ability to gather input and identify root causes while maintaining flexibility and precision in complex issue resolution is key to the success of this position.

Qualifications, Experience and Capabilities

  • Completion of post-secondary education in accounting or finance 
  • A minimum of four years' experience in accounting or finance-related field
  • Knowledge of CRA personal tax payroll related legislations, regulations, and best practices
  • Advanced excel level (pivot tables, VLOOKUP's, etc.) as well as experience testing system changes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Assets considered:

  • Experience working in a pension or benefit environment
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Payroll designation (PCP or CPM)
  • Working knowledge of JDE
