Collective Bargaining and Your Pension
ATRF is aware that the mediator report for Central Table Teacher Collective Bargaining between the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) recommends, among other proposals, a retroactive salary increase. ATRF is not involved in these discussions and therefore cannot speak to the terms of the agreement. Until the agreement is ratified, you may want to discuss any potential impact on your pension benefits with the ATA or your employer.
Your pension benefit is determined by a defined benefit formula that uses your pensionable service and the average of your pensionable salary in the five consecutive years of pensionable service when your pensionable salary was highest. Pensionable salary can generally be thought of as salary on which pension contributions are made.
Once the agreement is ratified, depending on the terms, ATRF will determine if there are any impacts to members’ pension benefits and proceed accordingly. Further information will be communicated on our website at that time.
